2017-08 update for Windows 10 Anniversary Update ("1607") breaks WSUS - WSUS gets a fix as well!
It looks like Microsoft are going all out to fix the issues introduced in the 2017-08 update for Windows 10 as an update to WUS has been released to resolve a single solitary issue (as well as the update for Windows 10 itself that came out recently):
This update fixes the following issue:

WSUS update metadata processing can cause clients to time out and return a 0x8024401c error.
