Pork Loin steaks marinated in hoisin, ginger, garlic and chilli

Marinated pork loin steaks, served up with halloumi, salad and steamed jersey royals
It's nice to have something different on the BBQ from time to time, a marinade with sugar in it works really well with pork because the sugars in the honey help to carmelise and crisp up the fat on the BBQ

Ingredients

  • 4 pork loin steaks
  • 100g hoisin sauce
  • 1 red chilli
  • a thumb sized piece of ginger
  • 25ml soy sauce
  • 25ml honey

Method

  1. Peel and slice the ginger into thin batons
  2. Thinly slice the garlic
  3. Thinly slice the chilli, retaining the seeds
  4. Combine all the ingredients in a plastic bag (except the pork loin steaks) and mix well
  5. Add the pork loin steaks and mix around to coat them
  6. Seal the bag and refrigerate for a few hours
  7. Cook the steaks on a hot BBQ until done, turning half way through and keeping an eye out for flare ups from the fat and sugar
